Report to General Assemblies & Governors of Maryland & Virginia, Mayor & City Council of District of Columbia, & local government officials on creating a regional transportation authority due Dec. 1, 2002 (Chapter 632, Acts of 2001).

In June 2000, Maryland joined the Virginia-Maryland-District of Columbia Joint Legislative Commission on Interstate Transportation by letter of understanding with the Virginia legislature. The Commission considers critical regional transportation issues, particularly those affecting the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. These issues include traffic gridlock, the expansion of mass transit, and the development of land use guidelines that embody "smart growth" principles.
