In November 1999, the Task Force on Food Allergies and Restaurant Patrons formed (Chapter 226, Acts of 1999; extended by Chapter 139, Acts of 2000). The Task Force examined the concerns of, and problems encountered by, persons with food allergies who eat in restaurants. After consulting with the federal Food and Drug Administration on food labeling laws and policies, the Task Force recommended measures to address the problems and concerns it identified.

The Task Force submitted its report in May 2001 and disbanded.
